'Tidal Pools' (2021-2022)

Newly exploring a subject matter of landscape scenes, Artist Marie-Louise Koen takes a further exploratory ‘dive’ with her latest collection, this time with the inspiration a lot closer to home. The result is a series of select Tidal Pools around the western Cape.

 Inspired by her immediate environment Marie Louise’s ’Tidal Pools’ series explores the beauty of Cape Town’s seaside, from the pools themselves to the communities they invite. The daily routine of a cold water dip which has brought together a community of cold water swimming, ocean loving people of all ages, genders, races, that’s the true inspiration to this body of work- a moment in time captured by these modernist expressionistic paintings.
